Is Your Body Asking for a Reset? Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

Our bodies have a way of letting us know what we need , we just have to take the time to listen. Often there are subtle signs that can be easily ignored. Especially if we have the mentality or personality to “push through”. Pushing through can seem effective in the time being but continuously ignoring our bodies signals can cause unwanted outcomes or even harm in the long run.
Some signs that our bodies and minds may need a rest include fatigue, illness, pain, emotional instability and brain fog.
Fatigue can be physical and mental. Physical fatigue can feel like you're tired more frequently or easily, experiencing low energy, or even cause difficulty sleeping. Mental fatigue could cause difficulty concentrating, trouble making decisions, easily agitated or irritated.
Brain fog can also result from physical and emotional fatigue. Brian fog is often described as the lack of mental clarity, difficulty forming your words or thoughts and forgetfulness .
Mood changes may be a sign that we are operating in a space that is not in alignment with our needs. This can be feeling outside of our normal character such as feeling more emotional, down or depressed, overly anxious, crying or angry. Some even describe being overwhelmed .
Feeling unwell; When our bodies are out of alignment we can physically feel unwell. When we are out of alignment it typically means the body is not getting what it needs and this can make you more susceptible to illness. In these states the immune system can decline and hormones and electrolytes can become out of balance. Your body can only operate for so long like this without effects.
Aches and pains: Unexpected or unexplained aches and pains can be another sign you need a reset. When we are mentally and physically out of alignment our body tends to be in a state of stress. This internal stress can cause inflammation in our bodies resulting in stiffness, aches and pains. Headaches and even chest pain can be caused by internal stress.
How do we reset ? This is the million dollar question and the answer can be different for each person, each of our needs are different. But here are some basic tips for a mind and body rest.
The first step is to realize you are in need. Be intentional about checking in with yourself on a regular basis. This allows you to recognize when something is off. To reset focus on Reflecting, Reenergizing and Reconnecting.
Reflect: It is important to reflect on how you got here. Take time to consider why you are in the state that you are in. Has your diet changed, have you been skipping meals, are you hydrating your body properly? Are you tired, have you been getting proper rest? Is something causing you stress? Reflection can provide direction.
Reenergize: Are you taking time to pour back into yourself? You can’t pour from an empty cup.
Reenergizing can be as simple as exercising, stretching, practicing yoga, or taking a daily walk. Movement helps release tension, improve your mood, and support relaxation.
Nourish your mind and spirit by spending time in nature, connecting with positive people, practicing mindfulness, or praying. Fuel your body with energizing, nutrient-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, and other whole foods.
Most importantly, prioritize quality sleep. While you sleep, your body restores itself and your mind gets a break from daily stimulation. Sleep is one of the most important resets you can give yourself each day.
Reconnect : Reconnect with your feelings and emotions regularly. You have to check in on you. Express and acknowledge your feelings honestly. Have you been sad, anxious, excited? Have you been stressed? Ignoring your feelings will not erase them. Understanding what mental and emotional state you are in can help you address what your needs are to allow you to reset.
A mind-body rest can sound overwhelming, but it does not need to be. A reset can be as simple as being intentional about drinking 80 oz of water a day for the next week to give yourself some much needed hydration you have been missing. It can be scheduling a daily walk this week to allow yourself time to decompress and reflect. It can be small changes that can actually produce large results.
